Recent Work: Spectacular Spring Weather in the Hudson Valley
More beautiful early-morning weather means more early-morning aerial still pictures. These are some of my favorites from this week’s recent work:
Tip: You want your rivers and lakes to be a vibrant blue (and not the brown color that can ruin our pictures and our memories of a place). So, get out in the early morning, before the sun has a chance to “wash out” your colors. When the sky is clear and the sun is low, water reflects the purest blue of the sky. This more accurately matches our emotional experience of a beautiful waterway.

The last visitors to the Walkway Over the Hudson, from Poughkeepsie to Highland, New York, in the evening light. The Walkway is the imaginative re-use of an old railway bridge. Now, the paved-over bridge spans the Hudson River, connecting Poughkeepsie with Highlands, New York. The path affords walkers, bike riders and (I swear!) unicyclers sweeping views of the Hudson Highlands. Spectacular!

A single car drives along the Tarrytown Lakes in Tarrytown, New York. The lakes formerly supplied the little village with its drinking water. The lakes “retired” in the 1990s. Now, visitors enjoy a great spot for walking or biking, fishing and photography.

An overhead view of a quiet neighborhood in Tarrytown, New York. Traditional, tightly-knit and friendly, open to all, Tarrytown sits on the banks of the Hudson River. Neighborhoods and paths face spectacular views of the new Tappan Zee Bridge and Nyack at dusk.

The Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse, Tappan Zee, Hudson River. Decommissioned now, the lighthouse offers tours on the weekends.
